Kibale Forest has the highest number of primates in Africa – thirteen species in all, including red, black and white colobus, blue monkeys and baboons and a large number of chimpanzees. The beautiful steeply forested Kyambura Gorge in Queen Elizabeth Park, is home not only to chimpanzees but also the red-tailed monkey, black and white colobus and many bird species. Budongo supports Semi-deciduous moist tropical rain forest Vegetation, good for many flora and fauna species including 24 species of small mammals; nine primates; 465 species of trees and shrubs; 359 species of birds; 289 species of butterflies; and 130 species of moths. Nyungwe Forest, in the South West of Rwanda, boasts of over 10000sq.km in size, much larger than Kibale Forest, Budongo or Kyambura; this makes Nyungwe the undisputed giant in Central Africa. The natural forest is renowned for its large troops of colobus monkeys, chimpanzees, butterflies and a rich variety of orchids. Over 300 bird species have been recorded.

Safaris that include a visit to the chimps or gorillas are subject to availability of permits at time of booking. Please check with us for availability before you travel. Book your chimp or gorilla permit in advance to avoid disappointment. Gorilla and chimp permits, are in high demand, because of the stiff competition for them, and therefore are booked with payment on the basis of first come first served.
