Rwanda Gorilla Tour VRW2: Gorillas in Rwanda – Visit Gorillas in Volcanoes Park, Visit Dian Fossey’s Grave, track Golden monkeys, climb Bisoke volcano, Karisimbi volcano or other volcanoes (4 Days)

Visit Parc National des Volcans (PNV) in the north of Rwanda where about 300 mountain gorillas live. There are seven habituated gorilla families – Amahoro group – located on the Visoke volcano; Hirwa group – located on the Sabinyo volcano; Umubano group – located on the Visoke volcano; Sabinyo group – located between the Sabinyo and Visoke volcanoes; Susa group – 35 individuals – located high on the Karisimbi volcano; Group 13 – located on the Sabinyo volcano; and Kwitonda group. Each of the groups allows up to 8 participants per day. You can track gorillas, climb the Visoke volcano, track the golden monkeys or visit the Karisoke Research Centre, which Dian Fossey the famous primatologist set up, or visit local villages.

This safari starts and finishes in Kigali. [One PNV gorilla permit is included in the cost.]

ITINERARY FOR RWANDA GORILLAS TOUR- 4 DAYS

DAY 1: Arrival
Arrive at Kanombe (Kigali) airport. Meet and greet before transferring to Kigali City. Drive the three hours North of Kigali to Kinigi through Ruhengeri. Enjoy the rolling hills for which Rwanda is well known. [Approximate driving time: 3 hours] O/N: Hotel La Palme/Virunga Hotel/Mountain Gorilla View Lodge (B-L-D)

DAY 2: Parc National des Volcans: Gorilla tracking
Transfer to Kinigi Park Headquarters to track gorillas in Parc National des Volcans. Gorilla tracking through the forest, hills and swamps can be tough, arduous and tiring, sometimes taking up to 8 hours in the forest. But coming face to face with the great primates is well worth the effort.

DAY 3: In Parc National des Volcans
In Parc National des Volcans: Either go gorilla tracking (on payment of US$750 gorilla permit supplement at time of booking)
Alternatively (on payment of supplement), do any of the following options; Track the golden monkeys or climb the awesome Visoke volcano, or trek to Karisoke Research Centre which was set up by the famous primatologist Dian Fossey, or visit local communities. After the trekking, lunch at Ruhengeri and transfer to Kigali. On your way to Kigali, several stops will be made to admire the scenery. Rwanda is the country with over thousand hills! [Approximate driving time: 3 hours] O/N: Hotel Chez Lando or Mille Collines Hotel (B-L).

DAY 4: City tour and fly out
Time permitting, go for a tour of the city (optional). This includes a visit to a genocide memorial. Traditional crafts can be bought. Transfer to airport for your flight. [Approximate driving time: 3omins]

ChimpanzeeThe Parc National des Volcans (PNV) is part of the Virunga Conservation Area and covers more than 125 km². PNV is home to five  Virunga volcanoes: Sabyinyo (3.674 m), Gahinga (3.474 m), Bisoke (3711 m), Muhabura (4.127 m), and the Karisimbi, the highest volcano with an altitude of 4,507m, just 1000m less than the Rwenzori Mountains. All five volcanoes are extinct, the active ones are located in Congo. Two of them erupted recently; the Nyiragongo erupted in January 2002 and Nyamulangira in July 2002. You can track gorillas, climb the Visoke volcano, track the golden monkeys or visit the Karisoke Research Centre, which Dian Fossey the famous primatologist set up, or visit local villages
