UGANDA BUTTERFLY WATCHING TOUR: 18 DAYS

This tour enables you to rich most of Uganda’s forests and game parks favourable for butterfly watching. Some of these include; Mabira, Budongo, Bwindi, Kyambura gorge and Kibale Forests. You will see several butterfly species including some of; Bubelenois theora, Bubelenois theora, Bubelenois thysa, Bucatuna crithea, Buacraea phasalus, Buanthen elarydas, Bubebaria chriemhilda and many others. Butterfly watching is recommended during day light so as to enjoy the diverse patterns formed by brightly coloured butterfly wings and their erratic graceful flight. This makes butterfly watching an interesting Experience in the wildness. Some migrate over long distances, across a number of regions. Culturally, butterflies are a popular motif, design and decoration in the visual and literary arts. Scales on the wing give the colours. They feed primarily on nectar from flowers thus many of the species are common in the tropical rainforests where they get nourishment from pollen, tree sap, rotting fruit, dung, and dissolved minerals.

ITINERARY

Day One: Arrival

On your arrival at Entebbe international airport, you meet with our driver guide greet make introductions and then transfer to a hotel in Kampala. O/N: Pope Paul hotel or Hotel Africana (BB).

Day Two: Mabira Forest

Mabira forest is the largest tropical rain forest in Uganda. It is located in the central district of Mukono in the east of Kampala the capital city. You will leave early in the morning with packed lunch and spend the whole day watching butterflies in this forest. You will return late in the afternoon to Kampala. Day Three: Kampala – Budongo Forest

Early in the morning after breakfast, you will leave Kampala for Murchison Budongo Forest, drive through Nakasongola, Luweero via Masindi lunch en route. At Murchison falls Game Park you will take a boat cruise to the bottom of the falls while watching birds lining at the banks of the river. You will then continue to Budongo forest for an overnight and Dinner. O/N: Budongo Eco-Lodge (FB).

Day Four-Five: Butterfly watching in Budongo forest

You will set off very early in the morning with packed lunch for butterflies in the forest. For the two days in the forest, you will have experience of several butterfly species endemic to the Albertine rift valley region. O/N: Budongo Eco-Lodge (FB).

Day Six: Budongo Forest – Kibale Forest Park

After breakfast in the morning you will, take along drive south to Kibale forest in Fort Portal through local villages and astonishing view of tea plantation sceneries en route to Kibale forest park. You will explore near by craters before going to your lodge for a rest. O/N: Sunrise Hotel or Chimpanzee View Guest House. (FB)

Day Seven-Eight: Butterfly Watching in Kibale Forest

You will start the day with and early morning walk in the forest viewing butterflies in Kibale forest which is the favorite butterfly viewing destination in Uganda. You will also visit Bigodi wet land for butterflies and birds. It will take you 2 days in the forest before departing for Queen Elizabeth Park. O/N: Sunrise Hotel or Chimpanzee View Guest House. Day Nine: Kibale Forest – Queen Elizabeth Park

Depart Kibale forest park for Queen Elizabeth, here you will relax and have lunch after which you will proceed for a boat cruise on Kazinga Channel where you will view several birds quenching up including various animals like hippos, crocodiles, kobs, buffaloes and elephants. O/N: Simba Safari camp or Mweya Lodge (FB).

Day Ten: Queen Elizabeth (Kyambura Gorge)

You will spend the whole day viewing butterflies, birds and chimpanzees in Kyambura gorge. O/N: Simba Safari camp or Mweya Lodge (FB).

Day Eleven: Queen Elizabeth – Bwindi Impenetrable forest

You will drive south west to Bwindi impenetrable forest. O/N: Buhoma community camps (FB).

 Day Twelve-Thirteen: Bwindi Impenetrable forest

You will go for Butterfly watching in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest Park including Mubwindi swamp and Buhoma. Two days of butterfly watching in the forest. O/N: Buhoma community camps (FB).

Day Fourteen: Gorilla Tracking

Track Gorillas in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Tracking begin at 8:00am and can last for up to 9 hours in the jungle. Tracking may be challenging but coming face to face with these primates is a remarkable non forgettable experience you will ever have, several bird species and other primates can be viewed on track. Day Fifteen: Bwindi – Lake Bunyonyi

Transfer to Lake Bunyonyi islands. O/N Bunyonyi safari resort or Bunyonyi overland resort (FB).

Day Sixteen: Lake Bunyonyi

Spend the whole day viewing butterflies and small birds. O/N Bunyonyi safari resort or Bunyonyi overland resort (FB).

Day Seventeen: Lake Bunyonyi – Kampala

After an early morning breakfast, leave Lake Bunyonyi for Kampala. Lunch en route. O/N Hotel Bougainviller or Pope Paul hotel or Hotel Africana (HB).

Day Eighteen: Departure

You will transfer to the airport for your flight.
